When Is Prednisone to Use

It is known, that approximately 35 million Americans suffer from allergic reactions to airborne substances. Prednisone can be an effective treatment for certain allergies wherein the respiratory system is compromised by the introduction of seemingly innocuous environmental elements. Here is a list of allergies which are treatable with prednisone.
Hay Fever
The most common immune disorder that tends to occur seasonally is hay fever, but it is also characterized by a perennial variety. The body lacks the ability to recognize foreign substances such as pollen or dust as harmless, and treats these environmental elements as a type of infection.
Between the symptoms for hay fever are swelling of the nasal membranes, causing sneezing, runny nose and nasal polyps (which result in nosebleeds). Sometimes might also appear dark circles under the eyes due to veins near the sinuses being congested.
People who suffer from perennial hay fever will find living in conditions with large amounts of dust, plant matter and mold intolerable. Seasonal hay fever sufferers tend to find that their symptoms flare up during the seasons their allergens are in bloom. For instance, those who are allergic to tree pollen will find their symptoms at their worst in the spring; those who are allergic to grass pollen will suffer flare-ups in the summer and those sensitive to fungal spores will be at their worst during the fall and winter.
Pet Allergy
There is a widespread belief, that pet fur and pet dander causes allergic reactions, but it is actually the protein in the animal saliva that is the real culprit. As far as cats lick themselves more than dogs and cats are more likely to rub themselves on furniture, cats are often the source of turmoil, but severe allergy sufferers will also react to the presence of dogs.
It is not to ignore, that pet urine also triggers allergic reactions, and pets such as rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils and mice can be the source of major allergic reactions.
Years may pass till pet allergies gestate. A long time -up to several months- is needed before the allergens to fully exit the system of the sufferer even after exposure to the pet has ceased.
Cockroach Allergy
The proteins contained in the excrement of cockroaches can trigger allergic reactions, and this is a common trigger for asthma attacks.
Busy urban areas often have cockroach infestations that are not necessarily visible to the naked eye; only the evidence of repeated allergy and asthma attacks might bring the possibility of cockroaches to the fore.
Cigarette Smoke Allergy
Cigarette smoke is not only hazardous to the health generally, it also can trigger severe asthma attacks.
Should you suffer from asthma and live in an environment where there is significant cigarette smoke, for the sake of your own health and safety, you will want to encourage smokers, if they are unwilling to quit, to smoke outdoors and away from windows or air conditioning vents, so as not to infiltrate the building with smoke that can trigger an attack.

Prednisone - Cortisol's Role in your Immune System

Prednisone is a life-saving medication for many serious medical disorders; certain conditions require the ministration of anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressing medications such as prednisone. Here are some facts of which you should be aware before you begin your treatment:
Prednisone suppresses the immune system
There are some conditions which require immune system inhibition. Medical circumstances that cause the immune system to attack the body's own tissues, such as organ transplants rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, require corticosteroids such as prednisone.
However, if the medication is taken for a long period of time, it can cause the body's immune system to weaken, and result in weight gain, infection, weak bones, ulcers and abdominal pain. If you have been prescribed prednisone and are experiencing the above symptoms or dizziness, confusion, psychiatric disorders or blurred vision, consult your doctor immediately so that your dosage can be adjusted.
Prednisone takes effect quickly
The anti-inflammatory properties occur more quickly through the use of the corticosteroid prednisone than they do with other drug treatments, and they are often given to patients for immediate relief before other medications take full effect.
Joint damage and pain can be reduced
Patients suffering from chronic joint pain from arthritis can benefit from prednisone treatment due to its capacity to slow joint damage when taken in small doses. However, when taken in large doses for a long period of time there is the possibility of joint stiffness and pain.
Patients should not stop taking prednisone suddenly
Because prednisone mimics hormone production from the adrenal glands, the adrenal glands can begin to atrophy and cease producing hormones after a long period of time on the drug. In order to prevent total gland failure, it is important to taper off of the medication slowly rather than stop immediately.
Side effects of prednisone
Most patients will not require heavy doses of prednisone, and therefore will likely not experience particularly noticeable side effects. However, patients that have been given larger doses might experience the following:
  • Excessive body hair growth (hirsutism)
  • Weight gain - notably the accumulation and redistribution of fat pads on certain parts of the body
  • Mild to moderate acne
  • High blood sugar
  • Fungal infections of the mouth
  • Osteoporosis
  • Stretch marks
  • Cataracts
  • High Blood Pressure
Prednisone can also interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications and vaccinations, as well as interact with certain hormone therapies (estrogen) in such a way as to compromise prednisone's ability to function properly. It is important to go over all conditions for which you currently receive treatment so that your doctor can make the appropriate adjustments to your medications.
Additionally, if you believe you may become pregnant or are trying to become pregnant and are taking prednisone, make sure to alert your physician, as prednisone may, in rare cases, cause the birth defect cleft palate.

What can we do to prevent the spread of alcohol and drug addiction

Drugs and alcohol addiction are among the most difficult problems that this country has to deal with. However, it seems that our country alone will not be enough to fight that kind of problem. If we really need to fight the problem, we need help from Morningside Recovery and other recovery centers. For a long time, recovery centers have been used by a lot of people who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. The existence of recovery center has given a lot of addiction treatments so that they can live as a normal person without having any addiction. Even though the role of recovery center in dealing with drug addiction is major, we cannot say that fighting the addiction is only the responsibility of the recovery center and also the government of this country. Even us as an individual has the responsibility to fight the drug and alcohol addiction happening in this country. So, how can we fight the problem?

Surely, it will be impossible for us to cure the addict or to stop the drug dealers from selling their product. However, it does not mean that we cannot do anything to stop the spread of drug and alcohol addiction problem. In fact, there are a lot of ways in which we can help to at least make people stay away from the drug and alcohol addiction. One of the ways that we can do to make people stay away from the drug and alcohol addiction is that we need to remind everyone we know that drug and alcohol is bad for their body and their life. This can be done by showing the examples of people whose life is broken because of the drug and alcohol addiction.

In addition, as a normal and healthy person, we should also not judge people who are now addicted with either drug or alcohol as a bad person. What we do not know about those kinds of people is that they choose alcohol and rug as a way out from their problem. If we know that one our friends or people whom we know are having this kind of problem, the easiest way to prevent drug or alcohol addiction is to ask their person to share their story. By doing this, they will know that they have someone to share so that they do not need to run into alcohol and drug anymore.

Before Taking Accutane Check You Know These Safety Concerns

Accutane is a powerful drug used to treat the most severe types of acne. It is extremely effective at treating acne, but it comes with a list of side effects and risks - making it suitable for last resort cases. Accutane works by using a processed and concentrated form of Vitamin A to decrease oil production in your skin. Oftentimes, too much oil production will result in clogged pores, which results in acne. Accutane also works by killing the bacteria responsible for acne.
Accutane is the brand name for the drug isotretinoin. Isotretinoin is sold under many different brand names; however, Accutane is the most popular in the United States and has been around since 1982. If you want to save money, you can also purchase the generic form of isotretinoin, which goes under the name Claravis.
A treatment plan involving Accutane will typically last from two to six months. Accutane dosage typically falls within .50 to 200 mg per day, and can be taken in either oral or topical form. The tablets aren't cheap and can cost you between 150 to 200 dollars per month, with higher dosages costing more. Since many insurance companies consider acne to be a cosmetic issue, Accutane is not normally covered by insurance. However, if you need Accutane to combat cysts or nodules, your insurance might cover treatment.
Accutane is a powerful and sometimes dangerous drug. Therefore, in order to use Accutane, you will need to sign up with iPledge. iPledge is a program associated with the FDA that began as a way to help prevent pregnant ladies from having babies with birth defects due to Accutane. Similarly, if you are female, you will need to take two pregnancy tests, with negative results, in order to obtain Accutane. These tests will need to be repeated each month of treatment. Women who are sexually active while on Accutane must use two different forms of birth control, or abstain from sexual activity.
As you can see, Accutane isn't a drug you mess around with. It is reserved for the most serious cases of acne, and shouldn't be the first drug you try. If nothing else has worked, however, Accutane can be a good treatment option for you. Accutane has worked when other drugs have failed, and although there are side effects, is tolerated by thousands of people across America. While using Accutane, remain under the care of your physician, and always report any side effects.

Combining Levitra with Natural Remedies for ED

Erectile dysfunction or impotence is a difficult ailment to deal with not because it does not have any type of treatment but because those who suffer from it are usually not comfortable in talking about it. The inability to get or sustain an erection is something very embarrassing for most men but what many do not know is that ED is very common and affects approximately 30 million men in the US alone. It's just the severity of their ED that varies.

Levitra is one of the most popular drugs prescribed for those with ED for them to enjoy their sex life like they used to however aside from Levitra, there are other remedies that one can take a look at.

L-arginine

For those who wouldn't want to take drugs or treatments that are not naturally occuring, there are a number of natural remedies you can use. The no.1 in the list is L-arginine. This amino acid helps in relaxing blood vessels, increasing blood flow along the way. Relaxation of muscles in the penis will allow men with ED to get an erection. This amino acid can be found in dairy, meat, fish, and poultry. L-arginine is in fact deemed as the naturally occurring sildenafil.

Gingko

Although used as a natural remedy for a number of ailments, gingko is a particularly popular treatment for erectile dysfunction. Experts say however that the herb is most effective for men whose ED is an effect of taking antidepressant. In a study of 60 men with ED, it showed that gingko has 50% success rate.

Propionyl-L-Carnitine

Another natural remedy is Propionyl-L-Carnitine. According to a study, this naturally occurring chemical enhances the effectiveness of sildenafil - the generic drug for ED and is also a good supplement for men with diabetes who also suffer from erectile dysfunction. This amino acid is produced by the body. It is used for the treatment of intermittent claudication because of poor blood circulation and ipso facto also a very good alternative to improve blood circulation for those who have erectile dysfunction. Aside from ED, this amino acid is also used for the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome, low testosterone levels, congestive heart failure, and atheorsclerosis.

Zinc

Remember when your doctor told you that you need all types of vitamins i.e. from A to Zinc? Well you should take this seriously because a significant depletion of this mineral in the body can cause erectile dysfunction.

Propecia and whether hats aggravate balding

Many years ago, the title of this article was almost a famous song, featuring both as a stage musical number and, later, as a free-standing pop or blues song. For the obvious cultural reasons, it reinforces the link between hats and the head. From the earliest times when clothing was just being invented, humans found various good reasons to cover their heads. It's a good way to prevent sunstroke or, at the other end of the temperature scale, to keep frostbite from removing ears and noses. When status and rank became more important, headwear indicated who was thought important. Later, it became the means of concealing hair loss. Even in the earliest centuries, men have always been embarrassed when their hair thinned and dropped out. Not all societies venerate age. This can make it important to conceal balding as one of the symptoms of aging.

The problem, as always, is to decide whether the means of concealment make the hair loss worse. Modern experts will tell you wearing any type of hat does not damage your head. Yet there's considerable mythology from the military where uncaring sergeants make the recruits wear those terrible helmets. This is not to suggests previous wearers were infecting the newbies with hair-eating fungus, but to suggest that many volunteers are entering the military at a time when early hair loss might start. In practical terms, there's no connection between what you wear on your head and the decision made by your genes to start your hair thinning and dropping out.

With this general reassurance ringing in your ears, if you absolutely feel you must cover up hair loss as it starts, it's probably better to wear a hat that does not pull at your hair as you put it on and take it off. Propecia is reliable in almost all cases of Androgenetic Alopecia. As soon as the hair loss has slowed and you grow more confident about your appearance, you can wear the hat less often. As to the Propecia, you have to keep taking that.
